Ensure your Smoke Alarm is Really Going to Detect a Fire!
A smoke alarm is a great safety feature to have in your home, assuming of course that it actually works. Smoke alarms are like any electronic device in that they are prone to failure. In order to keep your family safe, you need to test smoke alarm regularly, ensuring the battery and the smoke detection work.
Did you know that nearly 50% of all home fires are a direct result of improper smoke alarm installation? It’s true. Many of these smoke detectors are improperly installed from the start or the property owners have failed to replace the devices at the proper times. Or worse, some people simply refuse to install new batteries once the devices start making that annoying “beeping” warning.
Never seen these before? Neither had we until we started cleaning dryers with our dryer vent cleaning service. These lint balls grow inside your dryer when the lint has no place else to go, or the vents are starting to clog so lint cannot escape as fast as it needs to! These cute squishy, round things are an accumulation of lint inside the baffles that are on your dryer drum slowly getting bigger and bigger like a snowball only not as cold!
A recent dryer fire in Oakville caused over $40,000 worth of damage, whilst we hope the homeowner is OK and they are getting the house back to normal, dryer vent cleaning is something that is seriously overlooked in Canada! There are no reported statistics available for Dryer Fires and most reports after a fire state that an inquiry is underway. We have not been able to find any stats on Dryer fires in Ontario or Canada … until today!
