Back in November we took a call from Mark from Oakville wanting to replace his dryer vent hose. The basement was finished with about 24 feet of white vinyl hose from the back of the dryer to the outside wall vent cap. White vinyl hose should not be used at all and nothing other than solid metal duct work should be used inside the ceiling and walls.
Dryer Taking A Long Time To Dry Each Load
Marks dryer was struggling, on a good day the dryer would take 2 cycles on bad days up to 3 cycles to dry each load! With kids and their activities it was becoming too much. After some research they realized the problem was the old clogged vinyl dryer hose and called in Dryer Vent Cleaner to determine the best way to re-install the dryer vent. We determined that the vinyl duct work had to go and to replace it with solid 26 gauge duct work, and full dryer strip down and service to remove all lint.
Why is Vinyl Hose Used on Dryer Vents?
Why white vinyl or even the thin foil is used does not make any sense, when finishing off a basement just do it right the first time. The thin foil or plastic hose cannot be cleaned and needs to be replaced. The dryer vent warning on the back of the dryer says NO THIN FOIL OR PLASTIC HOSE the reason threefold
- They deteriorate over time and can be crushed/kinked the air flow is restricted and lint accumulates easily throughout the dryer vent.
- In the event of a dryer fire these type of hose will burn before the lint has burnt out. Not that you want t fire to happen but the transition hose should contain the fire and allow the lint to burn out
Correct Dryer Vent Installation = Efficient Dryer, Clothes Dry Faster and Your Save Money
With the proper dryer vent installation and a clean dryer vent your clothes should dry in 1 cycle or less. Modern dryers with the smart sensor dryer options could be driving your utility costs through the roof! If you have the option to turn this off you should so you can gauge how long it takes to dry your washing.
$110 Reduction in Utility Usage – Dryer Vent Cleaning Pays For Itself!
3 months after the work was done we received some great feedback. The results of changing the old vinyl hose for solid duct work and cleaning out the dryer had reduced their utility bill by $110 over the 2 month billing cycle! Not only is the family safer from having a lint free dryer vent and dryer but they are saving money every month.
