Pest Proof Vent

bird proof vent cap

We have been in search for the perfect solution to keeping birds and critters out of the dryer vents we clean. The vent caps that are available in all stores are terrible, poor quality using plastic that breaks down after a few years to allow pest’s to move in. Dryer vent cleaner have for the past year been looking for better solutions to the poor products available in Home Depot, Rona, Canadian Tire and Home Hardware. Our bird proof dryer vent is exclusive to Dryer Vent Cleaner you will not see this vent anywhere else in Canada.

Is There Really a Pest Proof Vent?

Yes there is and we are selling and installing them right here in Burlington and the surrounding areas. Our new vent cap has a double door system that makes it impossible for birds and critters to get in, they cannot hold one door up and then lift the second one.

Longer Lasting Bird Proof Vent Cap

Our pest proof dryer vent caps are made to last, they will not start to break down after a few years because we use a superior U/V stable polypropylene material that will still look like new in many years to come and does not turn brittle like the vent caps on the market right now.

Vent Cap That Saves You Money

Our bird proof vent cap actually saves you money! Have you ever felt how cold it can get inside your dryer? This is because cold air blows in through the louvered vent caps found on most homes thus lowering the temperature inside the home. The double door system prevents cold air blowing back in through the vent so .

Benefits of Our Pest Proof Vent Cap Other Vent Caps Cannot Provide

bird proof & pest proof vent With our bird poof vent the following features are there

When Closed Position (Not Running)

  • Birds and other pests are not able to enter the vent because of the dual door design
  • No energy grabbing drafts can blow in again because of the double door
  • Slick clean look with no place for wasps of bees to nest

When Open Position (running)

  • This is the most efficient vent around! Drying time is increased as damp air and lint can escape so much easier
  • No screen to restrict lint exiting and damp air exhausting, lint does not gather at the end because of the smooth design and restriction free exit
  • Reduced fire risk due to reduced lint build up – no cold air inside means less condensation – hot air meets cold air outside the dryer vent.

Louvred Vents = Easy Nest for Birds

The 3 or 4 louvres on most vents provide an easy entry to your warm vents for birds. After a few years they wear out or distort making it easy for the bird to use it’s beak and lift up the louvre to gain entry. Birds bring a lot of nesting material into the vent which can be a huge fire risk!

Choice of 3 Colors for Our Pest Proof Vent Cap

We have available our pest proof vents in the following colors – white, brown and tan. There are no other vents available in tan on the market!

best dryer hose to use on dryer

Do you have the wrong hose connecting your dryer vent? The chances are you do as we see a lot of dryer vents and dryers that are using the WRONG DRYER HOSE! That’s wrong determined by the actual dryer manufacturers themselves not us. By having the wrong dryer hose on your dryer it could invalidate your dryers warranty in the event of any warranty call for an issue. When we go to homes to carry out dryer vent cleaning we see this all the time.

Learn Whats The Best Hose To Connect Your Dryer With

Wrong Hose on Dryer?

On the back of all modern dryers (missing on some older ones) there is a warning label that states not to use plastic of thin foil hose yet most people are using thin foil and vinyl in older homes. Why is this such a big deal, well if ever a fire took place and your insurance company wanted an excuse not to pay out they have a valid excuse. It states clearly in black and white not to use vinyl or thin foil hose.

vinyl dryer hose replacementWhats Wrong With My Dryer Hose?

Vinyl hose or thin foil hose that most leading stores sell are against what the dryer manufacturer recommends yes they quote they are UL2158A rated but they are not all metal the so called foil is a laminate that contains plastic. Thin foil hose or vinyl should not be used, the dryer warning label and owners manual say so. We cannot fathom out why they sell them as dryer vent hose when they should not be used. In the USA there were several class action suits against the box stores.

Class Action Suits Against Box Stores Installing Wrong Dryer Vent Hose

Best Buy dryer vent class action suit

Washington, DC: A class action settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit pending against Best Buy Stores, L.P. (“Best Buy Stores” or “Best Buy” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota (styled Frankle v. Best Buy Stores, L.P., Civil Action Case No. 08-5501 JRT/JJG) alleging, among other things, that Best Buy sold clothes dryers in its retail stores throughout the United States and also sold delivery and installation services for the dryers and that, in the owner’s manuals enclosed with several models of clothes dryers, and sometimes attached to the backs of the dryers themselves, there is a warning label and other instructions, which, among other things, warns against and arguably prohibits the installation of metal foil transition ducts or vents when installing the dryer, according to the Best Buy Metal Foil Dryer Duct Or Vent Installation class action settlement notice … The rest can be read here http://www.bigclassaction.com/settlement/best-buy-dryer-settlement-class-action.php

Class Action Against Sears, HHGreg & Lowes Installing Wrong Dryer Vent Hose

May 21 2008 (Reuters) – Appliance retailers Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD.O), Lowe’s Cos Inc (LOW.N) and hhgregg Inc (HGG.N) were charged with improperly installing dryer vents in federal lawsuits seeking class-action status on Wednesday.

The lawsuits state the retailers’ installers attached metal foil or plastic vents to dryers sold to consumers instead of heavy metal ones recommended by manufacturers, creating conditions that could cause fires or death.

The suits seek unspecified monetary damages and corrective action for consumers whose vents were installed improperly. Appliance retailers typically charge a fee for installation.

“These retailers are selling their installation services and then they are (installing) in a way that they know can ultimately be a fire hazard,” said Paul Geller, a Boca Raton, attorney who represents plaintiffs in the lawsuits  … The rest can be read here http://www.reuters.com/article/2008/05/21/appliances-lawsuit-idUSN2144007020080521

Dryer Warranties Could Be Voided With Wrong Hoses Used!

It was determined in the HHgreg lawsuit that dryer manufacturers could void the warranty should they recognize the wrong hose was used to connect the cryer to the wall.

They later realized, however, that installers attached a flexible metal foil vent, even though the dryer included a sticker that explicitly stated, “Use a heavy metal vent … do not use metal foil vents.”

By ignoring the warning, the suit says, the company voided manufacturers’ warranties and created a dangerous situation in which the dryers could catch on fire or cause other safety problems.

Appliance Stores Putting Ontario Home Owners at Risk

Despite the warning labels clearly displayed on the back of dryers Ontario’s appliance stores still offer to install dryers with the wrong, NOT recommended hose! Ok they are not installing the white vinyl hose, but the thin foil they are always using is so wrong criminal in fact! It is not that they cannot see the large warning label as they have to go behind the dryer whilst hooking up the dryer. Be warned your dryer manufacturer may void warranty work if you have the incorrect dryer hose connecting our dryer to the wall!

Dryer Vent Cleaning on Roofs

Does Your Dryer Vent To The Roof – It Could be a Fire Risk!

roof dryer vent cleaningWe see so many second floor dryers that vent to the roof that are seriously a potential fire hazard over time. If you have a second floor laundry room your vent will terminate either on the roof or on the side of your home. Whilst it is great to have a second floor laundry room, it is very difficult for most home owners to make sure the vent cap or roof vent is kept free from lint build up. Some second floor dryers are close to the outside wall making it easy for the home owner to disconnect the dryer from inside and reach in to clean the dryer vent. However many laundry rooms are in the middle of the home with longer runs that are impossible to clean without professional equipment, or they are venting up to the roof.

Roofers Using Wrong Roof Vents Could Lead To a Dryer Fire!

Dryer vent cleaning on roofIt is not fair to say roofers cannot read, but when a dryer roof vent says “Do Not Use This Model for Dryer Venting” it does make one wonder! Here at dryer vent cleaner we can only assume that when roofs are shingled or re-shingled they do not always know which vent is the dryer vent. It’s not hard to determine but when under pressure to get the job done it can get over looked. However after re-shingling it’s easier to determine as lint is normally present in the vent.

So What’s the Problem with Dryer Roof Vents?

Well apart from the obvious fact they are out of sight and out of mind, they cannot be checked by the homeowner to ensure they are not clogged! In fact many homeowners do not know where their dryer vents to. The main issue with the dryer vents are they have screens at the end preventing lint from escaping. This causes lint build up through the dryer duct and then to the inside of the dryer itself. This lint build up prevents the dryer from blowing the damp air and lint outside as fast as it once did. Which takes longer to dry each load, uses much more energy (higher electricity bills) and results in premature dryer repairs (thermal fuzes, heating element) through the dryer working harder and overheating.

Modifying Dryer Roof Vents

modified dryer vent roofDryer Vent Cleaner have determined that most roof dryer vents need to be modified to prevent lint build up and ensure lint has a better chance of getting out! Whilst this does not mean the dryer vent does not need to be cleaned it helps reduce how often cleaning is required.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Milton

Dryer vent cleaning Milton

Dryer vent cleaning is something home owners in Milton Ontario should be considering. With over 15,000 dryer fires each year it is no something to be passed by. Many homes in Milton have dryers located on the second or main floors in the middles of the house. This means the dryer vent is long and may need professional dryer vent cleaning.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Reduces Fire Risk

Dryer fires are caused by lint not being able to escape outside due to the outside vent not operating properly. Louvred dryer vent caps should be cleaned on a regular basis to ensure they open and close freely. Screens should not be used as they over time cause the lint to accumulate and thus prevent further lint from escaping.

Dryer manufacturers recommend you have your dryer vent cleaned every 12-24 months depending on how many are using the dryer. They also recommend you clean inside the dryer cabinet regularly too, this ensures lint is removed throughout the dryer vent so the risk of fire is reduced.

Why Dryer Vent Cleaning in Milton Makes Sense

Dryer vent cleaning for your Milton home makes sense as you will benefit from;

  • Increased drying times – no longer run each load 2 – 3 times to get clothes
  • Reduces the risk of fire – with all lint removed damp air and lint can escap easier and faster.
  • Saves you money – your dryer runs more efficiently so less hydro is used
  • Less dust around the home – ever wonder where all that dust around the home comes from … A clogged dryer vent means lint cannot escape outside so it escapes through the dryer cabinet into the laundry room and moved around the home.
